  6.     TACTIX is a board game played by removing counters from a
  7. 4x4 grid. You and the computer take turns to remove pieces from
  8. the board and the player who takes the last piece loses the game.
  9.  
  10.     At each turn a player may remove between 1 and 4 counters
  11. from any row or column. The pieces taken must all be adjacent
  12. to each other (so there are no gaps in the line taken) and must
  13. be taken from the same row or column. You are not allowed to take
  14. pieces diagonally.

  16.     To select the pieces that you want to remove you must position
  17. the pointer on a counter and press the left mouse button. Move the
  18. pointer to the last counter in the line that you want to take and
  19. press the left mouse button again. The two counters that you have
  20. selected and any between them will be taken. If you only want to
  21. take one counter just position the pointer over it and press the
  22. left mouse botton twice.

  24.     Before each game you will be asked if you want to go first, and
  25. at the end of the game you will be asked if you want another game.
  26. To reply to these questions you should select either the yes or no
  27. box by positioning the pointer and pressing the left mouse button.

  30.     Unlike NIM there is no simple strategy to playing TACTIX. You
  31. will probably find this program difficult to beat but I can assure
  32. you that it can be beaten.

  35.     The game TACTIX was devised in about 1949 by Piet Hein of 
  36. Copenhagen. Hein also devised the game of HEX and an interesting 
  37. puzzle called the SOMA CUBE which is going through a renewed phase
  38. of popularity.

  40.     Danish readers may know Piet Hein better for his witty poetry 
  41. under the pseudonym Kumbel.
